C’est le printemps!

Spring is finally here in Central New York! Our trip to Québec in March was MALADE and we are excited about sharing some of the fun we had at our April meeting: song, dance, and maple syrup!

We also have some wonderful activities planned for the rest of the year! We are replacing our very successful Volleyball Tournament between the different languages last year with an even better OMNI-KIN Tournament at our May meeting! Twenty players from each language will compete for the trophy — all others are welcome to cheer them on. If you have never seen omni-kin played before, it is a crazy game with a huge ball that needs four people to catch it and cannot hit the ground!  We will rotate the four players from each of the four teams every few minutes. Competition will be fierce as the French players are determined to win!

May also means our final Paige’s Butterfly Run efforts. We will be holding a carwash on Saturday, May 1 and need lots of volunteers so please sign up at our April meeting or see Madame Guillet.  On Saturday, May 8, French National Honor Society will be partipating in the Radisson garage sale, selling gently-used items that you can donate as well as butterfly cookies.

And finally, the tenth annual French National Honor Society induction ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 27. It will be wonderful, with all former inductees invited to share the evening.

And still, there is June with several fun activites to close our third great year!

Bon Voyage!

Cercle Français wishes all the students a wonderful trip to La Belle Province as they travel to Quebec tomorrow!

Merci et Bon Voyage!!!

Beaucoup de petites choses…

As we watched in horror the events that unfolded in Haïti following the earthquake, we were reminded of the words on the back of our tee-shirts: Beaucoup de petites choses, par beaucoup de petites gens, en beaucoup de petits lieux, peuvent transformer la face du monde. (Many little things, by many little people, in many little places, can transform the face of the planet) We were quick to act. Instead of buying ready-made chocolate roses for our Valentine’s Day sale, we decided to make them – almost tripling the profit that we could make. Our profits will be donated to relief efforts. In addition, we remain committed to reaching our goal of $2500 to Paige’s Butterfly Run – now less than $200 away. Spring will be here soon and we are assisting the American Cancer Society with the daffodil sale at Baker High School. Last year, we raised $1000, and we are delighted to be able to help them again.

In addition to our fundraising efforts, we continue to plan wonderful activities for our members, celebrating Mardi Gras next month and preparing for our March trip to the province of Québec! In March we will be hosting a Québécoise singer at a Saturday concert, and in April, we will be sponsoring a “French Night with the Syracuse Crunch” with the chance to meet and speak with the French-speaking players. All are welcome to join us.

As they say in Québec – ça va être MALADE!

Bonne Année 2010 et Bonne Santé!

Here we are in a new year, which can mean only one thing- another year packed with exciting Cercle Français activities! Stay tuned to learn about upcoming events.

À bientôt!

Joyeuses fêtes de fin d’année!

It is hard to believe the holidays are already here and just as unbelievable how much the Cercle Français has accomplished during 2009. We received 521 flag messages to take to Normandy on the next trip to France during our Veterans´ Day project, and we are truly grateful to all who wrote their message of gratitude. It is still not too late, and you can download the form on this page and return it to school. We are working hard to reach our 2010 goal for Paige’s Butterfly Run; and thank you for buying our delicious cookies. This December we made a first-time donation to the Baldwinsville Christmas Bureau, and we will be volunteering for them as well. Although we have already accomplished so much, we still have much planned for the remainder of the year! Enjoy your vacation. Bonne Année!

À bientôt!

Honor An American Soldier

National French Week!

Cercle Français 2009-10

This fall the Cercle Français has already gotten off to a great start! This year, we are a group of 86 members – a new record! We have already held a car wash, a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s, and two butterfly cookie sales to raise money for Paige’s Butterfly Run. We also participated in the Homecoming parade, have walked the Labyrinth at the Syracuse Reformed Church, and travelled to Williamstown, Massachusetts to visit the Clark Gallery of Art.  We still have much planned for National French Week in November! We are beginning our celebration by taking a trip to the Everson Museum to view the amazing Turner to Cézanne exhibit, and by coloring our own “masterpieces!” In addition, each day you can hear French music before homeroom, see the French word of the day on the announcement board, and pick-up a French recipe outside of Madame Guillet’s room. Join in on the celebration by wearing your French-American flag pin and stopping in for crêpes after school on Tuesday, November 10!
