While we are all looking forward to our April trip to France, we are also thinking ahead to our annual Omni-kin Language Tournament in May. We were able to raise $375 for continued efforts to help the country of Haïti rebuild after the 2010 earthquake. Once of our members, senior Nicholle Gerde, travelled there this past November to work with project: Hands On. Bravo, Nicholle!

He wrote:

I wanted to take a quick moment to say thank you for your thoughts and prayers, and of course the care packages that you worked so diligently on. I received them right in the nick of time as my unit was preparing to re-deploy for the holidays.

In Afghanistan, we spent several months working side-by-side with French forces in Task Force Lafayetee. It was a great eye opening experience as both coalition forces learned about each others’ culture and traditions. Still, to this day, my regret is that I did not study French in High School. Each and every one of you has a gret opportunity in front of you. Mastering a second language truly will take you to places you have never been. Thank you again for all of yor support. I wish the best of luck in your future endeavors. Merry Christmas, Sgt. Duffy.

We all enjoyed celebrating National French Week and le 11 novembre! We ate crêpes, watched the film Le Petit Nicolas, served pancakes at our Applebee’s breakfast, and heard from our penpals in Lille. We listened to our own Légion d’honneur hero, Mr. Pat Heagerty of Manlius, about the liberation of France during World War Two, sent several boxes of goodies to Baker graduate, Matt Duffy, who is stationed in Afghanistan, and met our goal of 1,000 messages for the American Cemetery in Normandy for our April trip. It’s been a busy fall, and we are proud to have raised $2300 towards our $2800 goal this year for Paige’s Butterfly Run and to have made a donation to William’s Walk in honor of Becca Johnson’s beloved brother. We are now preparing to celebrate the end of the year holidays, both in class and in Cercle Français. Nos voeux de bonheur pour 2011. Bonne Année, bonne Santé!
