French Honor Society Induction 2008 (The Post-Standard)

AATF $750 Travel Stipend Application 2009

2008-2009 Application Information:

Each spring, students are inducted into the Mary Ann Cyr Cooper Chapter of the Société Honoraire de Français in recognition of their academic achievement in French. Our Chapter is dedicated not only to recognizing excellence in the classroom but service to the school.

Now is the time to start thinking about induction. In order to be considered for induction, students must

·         participate in peer tutoring for French III students in the fall (juniors and seniors)

·         participate in mentoring program for French IV students in the fall (seniors only)

·         participate in Cercle Français activities (juniors and seniors)

·         participate in the elementary after-school enrichment programs in the winter (seniors only)

·         prepare for and take the National French Contest (Grand Concours) in March (juniors and seniors)

·         participate in the annual NYSAFLT-FLACNY Culture Fair in April (seniors and select juniors)

·         submit a formal application essay at the conclusion of third marking period.

Inductees are eligible for various scholarships sponsored by these organizations, including one for college juniors studying abroad.  In 2001, 2003, 2005 and again in 2007, one of our students received a $750 stipend from AATF to be used for the trip to France; others have received scholarships from FLACNY and NYSAFLT. At graduation, members are recognized with a beautiful red, white, and blue honor cord.

Induction will be held on May 21, 2009 at a ceremony celebrating student accomplishment in French.  All students, not just those seeking induction, are encouraged to participate in the above activities.

In order to be considered for induction, you must participate in the above activities, maintain a grade of no lower than 90 in French IV and be enrolled in French for the following year, a 90 in French V and French AP,  and be recommended by your current French teacher.

Seniors who were inducted last May should note that they must fulfill the above requirements as well. Final grades and participation in the above activities are mailed to the national office shortly before graduation.

Membership in this organization, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French, is the highest honor for students of French in the country.  We look forward to welcoming you into it in the spring!
